FRCOG work in Northfield during 2005
- Staff worked with the Town to prepare the Town's Commonwealth Capital application and supporting materials.
- Staff, under a Smart Growth Technical Assistance Grant, helped the Planning Board prepare revisions to the Town's Zoning Bylaws to establish a village center zoning district, and prepared an article for a special Town Meeting in November 2005 for the adoption of the zoning revisions.
- Staff prepared a Smart Growth Technical Assistance grant to fund a Regional Study of Potential Industrial Park locations including a site in Northfield.
- Staff continued work on the Connecticut River Erosion project and secured funding to assist in the repair and monitoring of the eroding shoreline at five locations in the Turners Falls Power Pool.
- Staff assisted the Town to complete an Open Space and Recreation Plan with funding from the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs.
- Staff worked to implement approved projects along the Connecticut River Scenic Farm Byway including the purchase of scenic easements, design and construction of streetscape improvements in Erving on Route 63 north of Millers Falls, and the development of Byway signs and a marketing website.
- Staff continued to provide assistance and support in advancing the Northfield Main Street Streetscape Improvement Project.
- Staff continued efforts to complete a feasibility study for the MetacometñMonadnockñMattabesett (MMM) Trail.
- Staff secured a grant and began work on a Strategic Plan for Renewable Energy for the Pioneer Valley.
- Staff developed an emergency resource directory for first responders throughout Western Massachusetts.
- Staff updated state databases containing information on critical infrastructure and facilities in the region.
- Staff assisted in the development of a mutual aid agreement between the 101 towns of Western Massachusetts.
- Staff completed a pedestrian assessment survey and provided a map of the existing pedestrian facilities to the Town.
- Staff provided the Town with bicycle parking racks as part of Transportation Demand Management Program Share the Road in the Connecticut River Valley.
- Staff worked to provide information requested by MassHighway so that the sign locations for the Northfield Connector section of the Franklin County Bikeway can be approved and installed.
- Staff conducted one FRCOG requested traffic count in support of its Regional Traffic Count Program.
- Staff completed the 2005 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Project Listing, a prioritized listing of regionally-significant economic development projects, which included three Northfield projects: Commercial/Industrial Site Facility Study, Northfield Mount Hermon Infrastructure Project, and Northfield Main Street Revitalization Project.
- Staff fulfilled a data request for the Northfield Energy Committee.
- Staff completed the reporting requirements to maintain the Town's eligibility for the Economic Development Incentive Program through the Franklin County Economic Target Area.
