Regional Economic Development Efforts
The CEDS Committee and EDD Governing Board meet with Coop Power to discuss the proposed Biodiesel plant in the I-91 Industrial Park.
Project Overview
The FRCOG is actively involved in several regional economic development initiatives. Each of these initiatives focused on an area larger than Franklin County, recognizing that a much larger region influences Franklin County's economy. The Plan for Progress, a cooperative effort between Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties, assesses economic development needs in the Connecticut River Valley and identifies strategies for meeting those needs. Addressing the same geographic area is the Economic Development Partners committee, coordinated by the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts. The Northern Tier Project focused on an east-west region from Gardner to North Adams. The FRCOG was responsible for administering the federal grant funds acquired by Congressman John Olver and was actively involved in the projects outcomes, which identified economic clusters and related projects important and unique to the Northern Tier.
Current Activities
Staff serve on important subcommittees of these initiatives, including the Plan for Progress Board of Trustees and Coordinating Council as well as the Economic Development Partners committee.
Future Plans
In the coming years, the FRCOG, along with numerous other entities throughout the region, will work to implement many of the identified projects.
