Emergency Preparedness
First Responder / Municipal Training
Emergency Responders at hazardous materials response training exercise.
Project Overview
The FRCOG and Franklin County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) sponsor or provide training to emergency responders and local community leaders throughout Franklin County to meet local and state training requirements and provide national frameworks of preparedness and response that are prerequisite to receiving certain federal and state grants. To date, training has focused on two topics, Hazardous Materials and Incident Command.
The Franklin County LEPC surveys all emergency responders to ensure that those responsible for implementing chemical emergency plans be provided training opportunities that enhance local emergency response capabilities. Based on the results of those surveys, several training opportunities are offered at regular intervals at two levels, First Responder Awareness and First Responder Operations.
In addition, the Franklin County LEPC and FRCOG assist towns with training requirements regarding incident command. Both Incident Command System 100 (ICS 100) and National Incident Management System 700 (NIMS 700) have been offered and will continue to be offered on a regular basis. Both of these classes are also available online at The Emergency Management Institute (http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/crslist.asp)
Current Activities
Currently, NIMS, ICS and HAZMAT classes are scheduled to run in several sites throughout the county. For an up to date list of trainings including how to register, please refer to the Calendar of Events, available from the links above.
Future Plans
In the future, the LEPC will continue to coordinate training opportunities for local officials and first responders that reflect ongoing and changing needs.
