A recent septic system installation in a Regional Health Inspection Program town
About Regional Health
The Regional Health Program is designed to respond to the growing needs of local Boards of Health in our rural area. Boards of Health have enormous state-mandated responsibilities, including inspecting septic systems, checking all food service establishments twice a year, and responding to numerous health and safety complaints. Unfortunately, in doing this work, volunteer Boards face ever-shrinking budgets and a lack of paid staff. Balancing the need for professional assistance with limited resources is a serious community need. The Regional Health Program provides one solution to this problem through regional professional health agent and public health nurse support. Our popular Board of Health Capacity-Building Workshop Series was cancelled a few years ago due to state funding cuts, but we try to host at least two workshops a year. Sharing staffing costs over a large number of towns and applying for grants keeps our fees as low as possible.
