Advocating for Important State and Federal Legislation
Project Overview
The FRCOG staff provide written and verbal testimony and input on a variety of state and federal legislative initiatives important to Franklin County.
Current Activities
In the past year the FRCOG staff have provided testimony on the following pieces of legislation:
- Drug Free Communities and Safe and Drug Free Schools congressional briefing in Washington D.C.
- Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government Hearing on Regionalism
- Massachusetts Broadband Initiative Legislation
- Massachusetts Public Health Regionalization Bill
- No Child Left Behind Act’s Safe and Drug Free Schools Program
- Special Legislative Committee on Municipal Relief
- Trench Safety Regulations
- USDA Rural Utility Service Program broadband program regulation changes
- Reauthorization of Federal Transportation Legislation
- Municipal Lighting Authority bill testimony
Future Plans
In the coming year the FRCOG staff expect to be involved in the deliberation of a number of pieces of legislation, including:
- American Reinvestment and Recovery Act fund allocation in Massachusetts
- Pandemic Flu legislation
- Special Election legislation
- Governor’s pending proposal to audit performance and effectiveness of public schools
