Engineering and Information Technology Consulting Services
Project Overview
With the closure of the FRCOG Engineering Program in 2007, the FRCOG recognized that its member municipalities continued to need easily accessible services for small and large engineering jobs. As a result, the FRCOG contracted with Stantec Consulting. Stantec, located in Northampton and formerly Dufrense-Henry, is a full-service engineering firm that has worked in every Franklin County community on both large and small engineering projects. Stantec has expertise in roadway design, bridge and culvert design, environmental permitting, wastewater treatment planning, and other professional design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying, economics, and project management. Through the Stantec contract towns can access engineering services at a reduced price by contacting Bob Mellstrom in Stantec's Northampton office (413-584-4776). In 2008 Stantec provided engineering services to five projects in Franklin County.
In 2007 and again in 2009 the FRCOG surveyed Franklin County towns about their information technology (IT) needs. In response to a large reported need, the FRCOG procured IT consulting services for itself and fifteen (15) member communities.
Current Activities
In 2008, the IT consultant provided over 350 hours of service on an on-call basis that included assistance with software installation, back-up system creation and related implementation procedures, networking, virus removal, analyzing and pricing new systems, and troubleshooting.
In the second IT Consulting bid two consultants were selected so that there would be back-up available if the primary vendor was not able to respond when called.
Staff continues to monitor use of both contracts to ensure quality service is being provided.
Future Plans
Towns will be surveyed again as contract end dates approach to gauge need for next procurement process.
