Project Overview

The Teen Outreach Program (TOP) is a science-based youth development curriculum with proven outcomes in dropout prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, and reducing school failure. TOP combines a weekly curriculum with a youth-led service-learning project. The program can be integrated into an already existing curriculum or can be a stand alone program. Contact: Joyce

Current Activities

The North Quabbin Teen Outreach Task Force was created to develop and support the strategy of utilizing research-based practices to reduce teen pregnancy. This Task Force selected The Teen Outreach Program as that strategy. The Task Force meets monthly to discuss sustainability and expansion of the program. The Teen Outreach Program has been integrated into Athol High School's 9th grade health education classes and into the special education department at Ralph C. Mahar's Regional School in Orange. The program is also being incorporated into Greenfield High School's 9th grade curriculum. The North Quabbin Adult Education Center, a site of The Literacy Program, is integrating the program into their teen class curriculum and the Athol Area YMCA is using the program in their after school programming with middle school aged students.

Future Plans

The North Quabbin Teen Outreach Task Force will continue to meet monthly to discuss the possibilities of expanding the Teen Outreach Program as well as ways to sustain the program at both North Quabbin secondary schools and in the community.
