Project Overview
A Social Norms marketing poster designed by a student from Mohawk Trail Middle School.
CCT works with local schools to implement student-led, "Social Norms Marketing" and "Social Marketing" campaigns to promote healthy behaviors. Students learn the principles of marketing, and apply their knowledge and the results of their school's Teen Health Survey to creating prevention campaigns that work. Contact: Rachel
Current Activities
Since August 2006, CCT has provided five trainings in Social Marketing and Social Norms Marketing to over 50 participants, and continues to offer this service to school and community groups interested in learning about these approaches.
CCT staff continue to provide technical assistance to school groups implementing Social Norms Marketing and Social Marketing projects. The Greenfield High School SWEET group is working on a poster campaign using results from the 2006 Teen Health Survey and their own surveys. Students in 10th grade Health classes at Athol High School will be developing a survey and poster campaign. The Mediation group at Turners Falls High School is currently developing a survey, with plans to create a poster and audio-visual campaign. Students at Newton Elementary School in Greenfield have completed an all-school survey on what students eat for snack, and are working to design a poster campaign based on their results.
Future Plans
We will continue to offer training sessions to school and community groups, as well as technical assistance to schools and groups working to integrate Social Norms into their programs. We will also meet with new schools to introduce them to the approach and offer our assistance.
