Project Overview
Approximately every three years the FRCOG analyzes crash data from the Registry of Motor Vehicles for the 26 communities in Franklin County to identify intersections that have experienced a repeated occurrence of crashes. The study identifies the 50 most hazardous intersections and ranks them based on a calculated crash rate that takes into account the severity of each of the crashes, as well as the exposure to crashes based on traffic volumes. The most recent study was completed in 2009 and reviewed crash data from 2004 through 2006. The majority of the intersections on the ranked list are located in the most populated and developed areas of the County and/or along the heaviest traveled corridors. In addition to providing a list of the most hazardous intersections, the Final Report provides general crash statistics for the County as a whole and for each of the 26 Communities individually. Current Activities
The 2004-2006 report on the Most Hazardous Intersections in Franklin County was released for a 30-day public review and comment period on July 24, 2009. Comments will be accepted through August 24, 2009. If you have questions about the report or would like to offer comments, please contact Stacy Metzger. Some of the locations identified in the latest Most Hazardous Intersections list are currently being studied as part of the Route 2 West Safety Study.
Future Plans
An update of the list of the most Hazardous Intersections in Franklin County will be undertaken using RMV data from 2006 through 2008 once the data is availalbe. In addition, during 2010, FRCOG staff will be analyzing locations listed in the Most Hazardous Intersection list for those that could benefit from a Road Safety Audit and the possible identifiication of short and long term improvements to the crash situation.
